Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium - Atlanta, GA

Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was used by the Peach Bowl from 1971-1992; it replaced Bobby Dodd Stadium's hosting of the event, and was itself replaced by the Georgia Dome, and later, Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Overall, NC State had a record of 3-3 at this field, playing all games as non-conference and neutral site games. NC State lost both games in which it was ranked, and was 2-2 when its opponent was ranked. Strangely, NC State went 2-0 when the opponent was ranked but the Wolfpack were not.

Built to attract the a Major League Baseball team as part of a campaign promise by Ivan Allen Jr., construction began in April 1964 and was completed the following year. With a football capacity of 60,606 and a baseball capacity of 52,007, the stadium hosted both the nascent Atlanta Falcons and the relocated Atlanta Braves from 1966 through 1991; the following season, the Falcons jumped ship for the more football-centric Georgia Dome; the Braves remained through 1996, when they relocated to Turner Field. Vacant, the site was torn down in August 1997, largely to make room for parking at Turner Field.

Like many multi-purpose stadiums, the venue was derided for its sterility and nondescript nature, embracing a "modern quasi-minimalistic" design that was intended to be "contemporary but sterile, practical but domesticated." Similarly, the venue's amenities were fairly utilitatarian in nature, with the venue boasting wooden benches until 1977, when the site's seats were replaced with blue and orange plastic seats. Though the field was grass for its entire lifecycle, the conditions were notoriously bad due to the fact the venue had no full-time groundskeeper until 1990 [1] [2] [3].
