Black Balsam Trail - Pisgah National Forest

I hiked this trail on Sunday, July 4th, 2021, with a large group of friends. It was an extremely popular and crowded trail. As a side note, be sure to park completely off the road--we saw an officer giving tickets to people whose cars infringed on the roadway.

To get to Black Balsam Knob, take the Blue Ridge Parkway west. About 3/4 of a mile past the John Rock Overlook (mile marker 419.4), turn right onto Black Balsam Road. This road will be fairly narrow due to encroaching bushes (and aggressive parkers!), but after about half a mile you should see the sign for the trailhead.

This hike is short, quick, and fairly easy, but offers excellent views of the surrounding Pisgah National Forest.

This trail is easy to follow and well marked; though a bit steep, it should not be much of a challenge for most hikers.
