I visited this area on own on December 18th, 2022.
I woke up early on the morning of Sunday, December 18th, to drive up NC 94 to the observation deck located a few miles north of the wildlife refuge. Below, you can see a progression of the morning's sunrise.
A low shutter-speed image of the stars in the sky at 5:25 AM. Here, my back is to the observation deck.
At 6:06 AM, the sun is just starting to come out.
By 6:15 AM, the sun had peeked enough above the rim of the horizon to make the landscape around the observation point visible.
A short video of the serene scene area at 6:30 AM.
The sky is starting to become a deep orange color by 6:36 PM.
A video of the sky at the same time.
7:08 AM: the sun is about to rise.
A time-lapse of the sun rising, from 7:08 AM to 7:10 AM. (It's so shaky because I had to hold my phone on account of the wind).
Two views of the sunrise at 7:11 AM, less than a minute apart
A short panorama of the sunrise around 7:12 AM.
