Waterrock Knob - Blue Ridge Parkway

I hiked this trail on May 2nd, 2023 with my brother and mom. We hiked it late on a weekday as a short, post-work sunset hike.

Just under one mile round-trip, most of the beginning section of this trail is fully paved. After reaching a rock vista, the pavement ends, leaving a well-worn dirt path which overlaps with the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.

After a bit more hiking, you'll reach the top of the knob, which offers great vistas towards the south and east.

Since we were hoping for a dramatic sunset spot, we backtracked slightly to a spot on the MST we had checked out earlier: a bench called Piet's Place, named in honor of trailbuilder Piet Bodenhorst. We stayed there for the next 30-45 minutes, soaking in the sun's dying rays.

See a map of the trail here.
